Echo Mapping
Pink Manchester
PINK is pleased to present Echo Mapping, a collaborative residency and exhibition by artists Elaine Grainger and Moa Gustafsson Söndergaard, culminating in a dynamic presentation of new work from March 28th to April 6th, 2025. This partnership explores themes of place, movement, and the intersection of human experience with the built and natural environment.
For several years, Grainger and Söndergaard have developed a shared practice with previous presentations in Reykjavik and Aarhus. Echo Mapping marks their first collaboration in Stockport, where their individual methodologies converge through an ongoing dialogue facilitated by Katy Morrison, Curator/Director at PINK. This collaboration has evolved from a micro-residency at PINK in October 2024, where the artists conducted a site-specific exploration of Stockport through walking and mapping coordinates. The project, anchored in the artists’ research and sensory engagement with the local environment, delves into the intersection between lived experience and physical space.
The Echo Mapping exhibition is an exploration of both process and outcome. Through a shared interest in movement, architecture, and the ephemeral, Grainger and Söndergaard engage in a critical dialogue between their practices, with the gallery space itself serving as an active site of interaction. The works in this exhibition—ranging from Grainger's tactile sculptural responses to Söndergaard's poetic text and textile pieces—reflect their ongoing conversations about time, memory, and the relationship between the human body and the land.
